Opuntia cacti are best known as Prickly Pear cacti and grow wild in the deserts of Southwest America. These flat-bodied succulent plants get their name from the spiny fruits they bear (it can take 3-4 years for the Opuntia to start growing fruit) which are commonly eaten as a refreshing snack across Mexico.
CARE FOR YOUR OPUNTIA CACTUS:
Cacti are a favourite as a houseplant due to their easy-to-care-for nature. As they grow naturally in dry desert environments, they don't need to be watered all that often and like sunlight - perfect for a windowsill (just be aware of scorching occurring). Quick-draining soil is the best for the Prickly Pear Cactus and they don't need fertilizer all that often.
