Ficus elastica is a great houseplant with stunning big shiny leaves. These plants can grow really tall in quite a short space of time, so you could experiment with making your Rubber Plant branch off to fill it out. Just be careful when cutting it, as it releases a sap which is quite toxic to both humans and animals. This is not a pet-friendly plant to have in your home if your furry friend likes to nibble!
CARE FOR YOUR FICUS: This is a fairly easy plant to look after once you get the balance of sunlight and water down to a tee. If you find their lower leaves dropping off, they need more of one of those things. Bright, indirect light is perfect for the Ficus, but it won't be too happy in super hot environments.
When it comes to watering, they need more during the summer months (growing season) and their soil should ideally be a little damp at all times. You could spritz their leaves with water or wipe them with a wet cloth to help with humidity levels. In winter, reduce the frequency of watering and allow the soil to dry more in between each drink. Droopy leaves mean your Rubber Fig wants more water - plants are great at telling you what they need!
